Parents of Prodigals continued
Dear Friends,
If you are the parent of a child who has broken you heart, you're in good company. Many of your friends (in and out of the church) are carrying the same crushing burden.
A parent’s love for their child cannot be fully expressed in words. Only another parent would fully understand. All the parenting books and classes, church attendance, and our efforts to provide a loving nurturing home haven’t prepared us for the behavior and self-destructive choices of our sons and daughters. Nothing prepared us for their drug and alcohol addiction, sexual immorality, rebellion and personal rejection of us, family values and faith. We grieve for the loss of our dreams for them.
But there is hope – for us and for our children. Our hope is based in the truth of God’s word and the support of other parents just like you.
Chris and I believe God is leading us to begin a ministry to Parents of Prodigals. This six-week series will address such topics as
· seeing my child, my pain, and Jesus
· shame, guilt and God’s grace
· fathers, God and His character
· praying prodigals home and the battle with Satan for our child
· while I wait for their return (rehab for parents)
· hope of a homecoming
In addition, it is very important that we develop a sense of community—a safe place to be honest and share one another’s burdens. We hope you will join us for the first session—Tuesday evening, February 13 at 7PM at our home.
